Thomas P. Whitney was born on January 26, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio. He earned his B.A. from Amherst College in 1937 and his M.A. from Columbia University in 1940. After living in Moscow for nine years with the U.S. Embassy and the Associated Press, Thomas P.
